PRESS STATEMENT
A Government House spokesman said today (Wednesday) that the Governor, The Right Honourable Christopher Patten, entered the Queen Mary Hospital this morning for treatment for a coronary disorder.

The treatment, known as percutaneous transluminal
(PTCA), angioplasty
carried coronary
out at the Lewis Catheterization Laboratory and went very smoothly. Both of the occluded arteries have been cleared and the team of doctors performing the treatment described the immediate outcome as very satisfactory. Mr. Patten can now be expected to make a rapid recovery.
Mr. Patten will remain in hospital for two or three days and he will rest at home for a further week. The treatment took about two and a half hours under local anaesthetic.
Patten was with the Governor throughout.

Mr. Patten is in good spirits and has thanked the many well-wishers who have sent flowers and messages.
