Mr. John Higginbotham,
The Commission for Canada,
One Exchange Square,
14th floor,
8 Connaught Place,
HONG KONG,
10 June 1993.
Dear Mr. Higginbotham,
Hong Kong-Canada Drug Trafficking Agreement
The Agreement between the Government of Hong Kong and the Government of Canada concerning the Investigation of Drug Trafficking and Confiscation of the Proceeds of Drug Trafficking signed on 14 November 1990, entered into force on 17 February 1991. It provides for an initial duration of three years. Thereafter "the Agreement shall remain in force for further successive periods of one year provided that both Parties have agreed no less than 180 days before the end of the initial period, and each current one year period, to extend it for a further year." (Article 16.2).
Our two Governments have taken а similar close interest in anti-drug matters. Our common membership of the Financial Action Task Force demonstrates our shared commitment to the strategy required.
My Government proposes that the bilateral agreement between our two Governments be extended for one year from 17 February 1994. The renewal of the current
the current Agreement will enable our two Governments to cooperate in the fight against drugs, and to examine ways of enhancing mutual assistance.
I look forward to receiving your Government's response to the proposal.
Yours sincerely,
A. Suichir
(A. Sinclair )
Commissioner for Narcotics
