I am afraid this is a rather belated thank you for taking the time to brief me when I was in Hong Kong and for a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. I hope you will be in London in the not too distant future so that I can return the favour.
One of the subjects we touched on over lunch was the question of transfer of assets. You said you had seen the exchange of telegrams but had not seen the paper. I promised to send you a copy which is attached. HKG's reply telegram, which I believe was cleared by FS, makes it clear that this is not a subject you would want raised with the Chinese side, at least not in the foreseeable future. It is, however, as well that we should be aware that this is a potential problem which may need to be tackled at some stage.
