Persons listed in para. 3 (a) (ii) should be required to obtain re-entry visas to return to the HKSAR and be subject to limitation of stay on each return journey.

By virtue of an agreement reached between the British and Chinese sides at JLG VI in March 1987, the Hong Kong Government will issue HKDIS up to 30 June 1997 and these documents will
valid beyond that date until their expiry dates.
30 June 1997, some persons holding valid HKDIS who are eligible for the HKSAR DI may choose to get HKSAR DIS. In that case, they will have to surrender their HKDIS in exchange for HKSAR DIS.

Most HKSAR DI holders will be eligible for the HKSAR passport or HKSAR CI after they have completed the 7-year residence requirement and have acquired right of abode in the HKSAR.
