It was RECOMMENDED that the selected professional officers participate in specialized training courses on patent information and documentation. Again, a number of such courses are organized by WIPO in conjunction with the national and regional industrial property offices, and it was RECOMMENDED that the opportunity be taken to participate in these
course.
The mission also considered that short-term visits by WIPO consultants to the HKPC to provide advisory services and on-the-job training in the following areas were necessary :
a consultant for one month in the area of patent information services. This short-term attachment should be repeated after two years;

two man-months of consultant services in the area of classification of patent documents, with particular reference to the International Patent Classification (IPC);
2.
short visits should be solicited from staff of vendor firms or companies of on-line patent information services. Such visits can be arranged free of charge.
The mission also noted that under terms to be agreed upon, WIPO would be prepared to provide assistance by way of financing the participation of some members of the staff of the patent information and documentation unit of the HKPC in training courses and financing the visits of some consultants to HKPC out of the funds available to it for development cooperation activities. These funds come from three principal sources: (1) the WIPO Permanent Program for Development Cooperation Related to Industrial Property; (2) a regional project for Asia and the Pacific which is funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and of which WIPO is the executing agency; and (3) funds-in-trust which WIPO from the Governments of a number of industrialized countries.
