Technical periodicals :
It was RECOMMENDED that the present journal holdings of HKPC (which number approximately 500 titles) should be compared with the list of PCT minimum documentation journals, with a view to the possibility of subscribing to some of those journals specified in the list for which subscriptions are not already maintained. In addition, it is RECOMMENDED that the WIPO Journal of Patent Associated Literature (JOPAL) be acquired.
Industrial property text books and journals :
It was RECOMMENDED that the HKPC develop a collection of basic text books on the law and administration of patents and industrial designs, and maintain a subscription to selected industrial property journals, such as "Industrial Property" published by WIPO.
Service
SDI Bulletins
It was RECOMMENDED that the selection of the Patent documents referred to in the HKPC's SDI Bulletins should be clearly defined, e.g. in terms of the IPC and that all relevant references found should be included. Also, instead of providing imaginary front pages of patent documents, it was RECOMMENDED that the front pages of actual patent documents should be used, since the front pages contain all the necessary information to permit the users of the Bulletins to decide whether or not to order the full-text of the documents.
Search Services
It was RECOMMENDED that the HKPC take advantage of the WIPO State-of-the-Art Search Program (SASP), both in searching and in document procurement.
It was RECOMMENDED that the HKPC continue to maintain access capability to on-line hosts such as DIALOG. It was RECOMMENDED that the HKPC should also consider obtaining access to the following other hosts: ORBIT Infoline and Telesystems Questel, which, among others, give access to EPO and the PCT documents.
Extension Services
The function of the patent and documentation unit in the HKPC should be to promote greater awareness and use of the technical information contained in patent documents and to provide basic information on the patent system. It is therefore RECOMMENDED that this unit should also:
prepare educational and promotional literature for distribution to the public;
liaise with the media and editors of professional journals;
