Registration options

13.3.

should allow petty patents to be obtained quickly and inexpensively;

should protect the same subject matter as can be protected by a patent; and

should give a term of protection that is less than for a patent.

Registration systems for petty patents, where patents granted by other patent offices are registered in Hong Kong have been considered in paragraph 12.2. None of the registration options is considered to be attractive. We therefore do not recommend a system of registration for petty patents.
