Dear Mr. Straker,
I acknowledge receipt of your letter of November 25, 1992, concerning the PCT and Hong Kong. We understand your letter to refer only to the period between now and July 1997, when Hong Kong becomes a special administrative region of China.
In view of the circumstances, we doubt that it would be advisable for the Trade Marks and Patent Office of Hong Kong to become a separate receiving Office under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) for that period. On the other hand, that Office could be, for the said period, a branch office of the UK Patent Office as regards receiving Office functions.
