PATENT COOPERATION TREATY (PCT) and HONG KONG

The UK is a contracting state of the PCT and the provisions of this treaty extend to Hong Kong from the UK's membership.

At present, residents of Hong Kong must file PCT applications

The at the Receiving Office (The Patent Office) in UK. authorities in Hong Kong have suggested they might apply for Receiving Office status. This would mean that residents of Hong Kong would be able to file PCT patent applications in Hong Kong, where certain formal matters would be considered before the applications are sent out to an International Search Authority (ISA) and later to an International Preliminary Examination Authority (IPEA). Office is not an ISA but it is an IPEA.
