The provisions OF the 1965 Act which relate to liability for the carriage of nuclear material therefore at present constitute part of the law of Hong Kong. These provisions will however lapse оп 30 June 1997 unless localised. Although it is not expected that consignments of nuclear material to and from nuclear installations will pass through Hong Kong frequently, or indeed at all, it would nonetheless be prudent to allow for the possibility of such Я consignment giving rise to claims for injury or damage in Ilong Kong. It is therefore appropriate that local legislation on this topic should be enacted in Hong Kong which can continue in force after 30 June 1997.
