Bill now proposed by the British side is introduced, provisions will

be included in the Bill to disapply the 1967 Order in respect of

offences specified in the localising Ordinance and to bring such

offences within the scope of the localised fugitive offenders

legislation. If such legislation is not in place when the

localising Bill is introduced, the Bill will, as a temporary

measure, include a saving for relevant provisions of the 1967 Order.

Future adaptation

Nearer to 1997 certain amendments to the localising

Ordinance will be required to ensure it does not contravene the

Basic Law. The British side will in due course consult the Chinese

side on any such amendments in accordance with the agreed principles

for consultation on adaptation of laws.
