CONSTITUTION OF THE ASIA-PACIFIC TELECOMMUNITY ADOPTED BY THE UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMISSION FOR ASIA AND THE PACIFIC AT BANGKOK ON 27 MARCH 1976
ACCESSION BY MACAU, WITH DECLARATION BY PORTUGAL AND COMMUNICATION BY CHINA
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, acting in his
depositary, communicates the following:
On 9 February 1993, the instrument of accession by Macau, as an associate member of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, to the above-mentioned Constitution was deposited with the Secretary-General, in accordance with paragraph 4 of article 3 of the Constitution.
The deposit was duly accompanied by a declaration from the Government of Portugal in accordance with article 20 of the Constitution, to the effect that "the Government of the Portuguese Republic confirms that Macau as an associate member (of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific] is authorized to be a party to the Constitution of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity and to assume rights and obligations contained therein". A copy of the declaration is attached herewith (Annex A).
In accordance with paragraph 2 of its article 19, the Constitution entered into force for Macau on the thirtieth day after the date of deposit of the instrument, i.e. on 11 March 1993.
Also on 9 February 1993, and in reference to the above-mentioned deposit, the Secretary-General received a statement from the Government of China, copy of which is attached herewith (Annex B).
