and digital format. This planning will be based on information received from the MET Committee on items referred to in paras 14.3 a), b) and c) above.

16.1
Item 11. Aeronautical mobile service
The HF and VHF aeronautical mobile service (AMS) plans were updated by the ASIA/PAC/2 RAN Meeting (1983). Therefore there is a need for an overall review of the requirements for both HF and VHF AMS in the Asia and PAC Regions. In light of the encouraging results of the Pacific Engineering Trials, the meeting is expected to give due consideration to the use of "state-of-the-art" technologies and to make provisions for the transition to the new ICAO CNS/ATM environment.

Item 12. Aeronautical radio navigation service
17.1
The last overall review of the requirements for radio navigation aids was made by the ASIA/PAC/2 RAN Meeting (1983). There is, therefore, a need to review these requirements on a system basis, taking into account the current and anticipated aircraft operations and recognizing that some of the requirements for short-range and long-range navigation aids may be met for some modern aircraft by self-contained navigational devices. Also there may be a need to initiate planning for the transition from ILS to MLS in the ASIA and PAC Regions. Second meeting of the ASIA/PAC ILS/MLS Transition Regional Planning Group is expected to be held during third quarter of 1992. The Group will develop suitable material to assist the meeting when considering this item. The meeting is expected to take into account the new ICAO CNS/ATM systems concept, particularly satellite navigation system self contained navigation devices while developing requirements for radio navigation aids.

Item 13. Aeronautical information services (AIS) and aeronautical
charts (MAP)
The aeronautical information services (AIS) and production of aeronautical charts in the area to be considered by the meeting will need to be examined, particularly in those areas where pooling of resources might produce significant improvements in the provision of AIS and production of aeronautical
Matters requiring attention would include:
charts.
a) uniform application of Standards and Recommended Practices as
contained in Annex 15 including its latest Amendment 27;
b)
c)
arrangements for the international exchange of all the elements of Integrated Aeronautical Information Package and the adequacy of pre-flight and post-flight information services;
improvements in the presentation of certain critical information affecting flight safety (i.e. instrument approach charts, aerodrome charts, aerodrome obstacles charts types A and C, areas or routes where the possibility of interception exists, etc.);
d) strict adherence to the Aeronautical Information Regulation and
Control (AIRAC) system for promulgation of operationally significant information;
