We are inclined to agree that the quote strategic considerations unquote Roungroj refers to in second TUR might relate to the trunk route. As with the Philippines however we want to continue to keep the trunk route away from the separation exercise and, as our tel to Hong Kong on separation advises, you should continue to ignore Roungroj's suggestion of any linkage.

We are keen to resume trunk route talks with the Thais (indeed the July 1991 agreed record committed both Governments and airlines to further talks). As our negotiating team is Likely to be in the region in March (paragraph 1 above), grateful if you could approach the Thai authorities provisionally suggesting either the week commencing 8 or 22 March for the resumption of trunk route talks in Bangkok.
