COPYRIGHT DESIGNS AND PATENTS ACT 1988: EXTENSION TO DEPENDENT TERRITORIES

Your minute of 3 June to Mr Green refers.

2. Invitations to Dependent Territories to consider extension of the UK legislation should be addressed to the Governor. As you suggest in your paragraph 1, copies of the Act should be accompanied by an explanatory memorandum covering the effect of the provisions of the Act and an indication of the benefits and any potential costs and liabilities which might fall to the Dependent Territories as a result of the Act being extended to them. These papers should be cleared in draft with you and with the supervising FCO department. Any deadlines should be clearly stated and explained.

3. As far as WIAD is concerned, there is no objection to the Dependent Territory Governments corresponding direct with the Patent Office copying to Joint Directorate and this department (Regional Unit of the Dependent Territories Section) as appropriate.
