Notably, twu officers of the Labour Department attended the "Training Workshop for Trainers in Safety, Health and Welfare in the Construction Industry" held in Thailand in July 1989. They are now actively involved in promoting safety, health and welfare of workers in the construction industry in Hong Kong. Also, the Labour Department has arranged with the Hong Kong Polytechnic for a module un construction safety to be incorporated into the syllabus of the "Certificate of Proficiency Course in Industrial Safety".

In another case, the division head of the Employment Services of the Labour Department attended the "ILO/ARFLA Regional Seminar on Compucerisation of Labour Market Information (LMI) Systems for Policy Planning" helů in Thailand in June 1990. He is at present comparative study of the computerisation of LMI systems in the represented at the seminar and will submit a detailed report on his findings. His suggestions on how the employment services in Hong Kong may be further improved will be examined by the department.

During the reporting period, the ARPLA and the Labour Department jointly organised four training programmes in Hong Kung. Among them, the two residential seminars on "Self-regulatory Approaches in Labour Inspection" held.. in 1988 and 1989 altogether attracted 168 participants from industrial establishments, employers and workers organisations, construction companies, public utilities and government departments. These seminars put forward the important message of self-regulation on safety and health at work. In addition to being a forum for exchanging views, the seminars also enabled the participants to improve their knowledge and practical skills on safety

management.

Copies of this report have been sent to the Employers' Federation of Hong Kong and the Labour Advisory Board, which includes six workers' representatives and, through the United Kingdom Department of Employment, to the Confederation of British Industry and the Trades Union Congress of Great Britain. No observation regarding the application of this convention in Hong Kong have been received from any organisations of employers or workers during the period under review.
