"passenger ship" means a vessel carrying more than 12 passengers.
"officer" means the holder of
a certificate of
• competency or of service, or a licence, issued under the Merchant Shipping (Certification of Officers) Regulations.
"rating" means a member of the ship's crew other than the master or a qualified deck/engineer officer.
"petty officer" by custom means a rating serving as the boatswain, carpenter, cassab, chief steward, chief cook, fitter, pumpman, No. 1 fireman or No. 1 greaser. (not defined by law)
"adult" means a person who has attained the age of 18 years.
"crew accommodation" rooms,
sanitary
includes sleeping rooms, mess
accommodation,
hospital
accommodation, recreation accommodation, store rooms and catering accommodation provided for the use of crew but does not include any accommodation which is also used by or provided for the use of passengers.
"prescribed", when used in or with reference to any Ordinance, means prescribed by that Ordinance or by subsidiary legislation made under that Ordinance.
"approved" means approved by the Director of Marine
"re-registered" means re-registration on the occasion of change of registry to Hong Kong of an existing ship registered elsewhere. (not defined by law)
Article 3
The Accommodation of Crews Convention (Revised), 1949 is applied to Hong Kong with modifications by an improved declaration registered by the ILO on 27 August 1934 in respect of Articles 1(5), 3(2) (e), 5(c) and 10(10).
The provisions of Part II of this convention are applied to Hong Kong with modification in respect of Article 12.
