Please refer to the letter dated
Governor of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and its affiliates [the International Monetary Fund) for the Peoples' Republic of China to the President of the Bank [the Managing Director of the Fund], extending an invitation to hold the 1997 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the Bank and its affiliates (the Fund] in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Government requests that the Government of the United Kingdom convey to the World Bank and its affiliates (the Fund] its assurances that it will do all in its power to ensure the success of these Meetings. To this end, the Hong Kong Government has engaged in detailed discussions with the staff of the organizations on the requirements of the Meetings, which are reflected in the draft Memorandum of Understanding dated [date]. The Hong Kong Government further wishes to assure the Bank and its affiliates [the Fund] that it stands ready to complete the negotiations of the Memorandum of Understanding with the organizations and to supply all necessary facilities and financial resources needed for the preparation and the conduct of the Meetings, as will be set forth in the Memorandum of Understanding.
