At the
briefing by the
Immigration Department,
Cheng Shousan asked about the Department's role in
processing politically sensitive visa or entry cases, for
example, the admission of a Taiwanese advocating
independence of Taiwan.
The reply given was that such cases were considered by the Political Adviser and Security
Branch, with the Imm.
Dept. executing the decision. The delegates also said that it took a long time to obtain a visa to visit Hong Kong through the British Embassy in
Peking. They asked whether there were any short-cuts!
