subjects; and proposed tuition fee of US$1375 per person
for each course of at

covers the five weeks in Peking and excludes living
expenses and the costs of transport and other extra
curricular activities. We reserved our position over the
cost pending further details on the curriculum. QU agreed
to submit a detailed proposal by mid-February, taking into
account our comments on the initial proposal. Our key
message was: we wish to see more emphasis being given to
explaining existing government 'policies, and
relationship between central and local government, and less
academic analysis of historical events.
In terms of
the
language study, our priority is on practice in both the use
of Putonghua and official Chinese writing rather than, for
example, studying the evolution of simplified characters.
