HONG KONG
Dear Michael.
SECRETARY OF STATE'S VISIT:
1.
BRIEFS
Christopher Hum tells me that you are conducting an investigation into what damage might have been done by a set of briefs being left for a short period with the Chinese side after the Secretary of State's meeting.
2.
I enclose a copy of the speaking notes (including the amended fourth page produced in Peking), the response points and the background note dealing with the talks issue. The only other papers relevant to the talks in the briefing pack were a copy of the Summary and Comment telegram on the last day of the Seventh Round (Peking telno 937) and the exchange of messages between the Secretary of State and Qian from February and May.
