ANGLO-TAIWAN TRADE COMMITTEE (ATTC) TAIPE!:
Problem
NAME CHANGE
1. When should we change the name of the Anglo-Taiwan Trade
Committee (ATTC), our office in Taipei?
Recommendation
2. I recommend that we change ATTC's name to "British Trade and
Cultural Office" with effect from 15 October 1993.
Background and Argument
3. Ministers agreed, in response to my submission of 18 May (para 11f), with the principle of changing the name of our operation in Taipei from the anachronistic Anglo-Taiwan Trade Committee to the British Trade and Cultural Office (BTCO). This name would more accurately reflect the office's function and status, particularly
since its upgrading in May 1992 when we seconded DS and DTI staff to
it for the first time. It would also be more in line with names used by other countries for their operations in Taipei. The British Council have now taken over the running of the Anglo-Taiwan Education Commission (ATEC) and agree that it should become the Education and Cultural Section of BTCO.
