BRIEF ON PROPOSED LINGDING SEA BRIDGE
Annex A
The proposed Lingding Sea Bridge starts from Jinding town, Zhuhai, crosses over Qiao and Neilingding, two islands in Lingding Sea, and terminates at Tuen Mun, Hong Kong. The main span of this bridge is 52 km in length while the investment is estimated at about RMB 10 billion.
The Lingding Sea is situated at a strategic location in the Pearl River Estuary and can be regarded as the largest bay in the Estuary, being the convergence of Humen River, Jiaomen River, Hongqili River and Hengmen River, 4 of the 8 inland rivers that flow into the Estuary. The Pearl River Basin is a vast area full of tributary rivers and water channels that thread together. Coupled with the tidal influence, Lingding Sea has thus become one of the world's unique and characteristic estuarial bay. Many experts have conducted extensive scientific studies into the environment, hydrography and climate of this region.
They conclude that the construction of a cross-estuary bridge in this region is a completely feasible project.
Our Municipality recently invited over 100 bridge experts, professors and senior engineers to carry out an assessment study on the bridge project feasibility study report prepared by the Institute of Highway Planning, Investigation and Design under the Ministry of Communications.
