Opening Hours of Border Road Crossing Points
PROBLEM
certain
The border road crossing points are congested at
times of the day and vehicle throughput is expected
to reach the capacity of the immigration/customs kiosks now
in use next year.
There is pressure from the business
community to open the crossing points 24 hours a day.
RECOMMENDATION
2.
A phased response is recommended, as follows
(a)
(b)
firstly,
advance
the opening times of the
Lok Ma Chau and Man Kam To crossings perhaps
by an hour to 6:00 a.m., so as to reduce the
early morning tailback of traffic;
secondly,
plan to bring two more kiosks into
use at Lok Ma Chau starting in early 1994;
(c) thirdly, open two kiosks at Lok Ma Chau
throughout the night starting in 1994/95 (i.e.
a 24-hour crossing point); and
