Railway Development
Study
To construct the Ting Kau Bridge section under PWP for completion by mid 97 and to invite bids for the Tai Lam Tunnel and Yuen Long Approach Road sections under a BOT franchise for completion by 1998
To develop a long term railway plan for the territory
EXCO endorsement of the privatisation strategy obtained on 7.9.93. The Chinese side was informed of the privatisation strategy on 29 September 1993. The plan is to commence construction for Ting Kau Bridge in August 94 and for the privatised sections by early 95.
Public consultation period ended on 31 July. Two additional studies are being conducted. Government to decide on a railway development strategy which will take account of the public
comments received and the findings
of the additional studies.
Controversial issues include a
rail link for Tuen Mun and early
construction of Tseung Kwan O MTR extension.
