The SWB Introductory Page
Monitoring proposes to discontinue the practice of publishing selected items on a separate introductory page of each of the SWB parts. Our understanding is that such a practice -- which is the most labour-intensive part of our production process -- has no coherent, cost-effective purpose. This understanding has been matched by information from customer surveys.
Monitoring proposes that the items hitherto carried on that page be incorporated into the body of the SWB daily parts and that each publication start with the "Contents" page. (see below - Point 8)
The Monitoring Report
WE O
Monitoring is proposing that the daily Monitoring Report which hitherto has been produced by simply pulling together all the introductory pages of the daily SWB Parts (see above) -- is redefined in line with known customer needs for a short daily printed briefing paper covering the major stories handled that day by BBC Monitoring. Dummies of such a publication are currently being worked on at Monitoring and will be circulated to customers for comment and suggestions.
SWB Economic Weekly publications
A fundamental review of the way in which BBC Monitoring presents economic material to customers in its printed publications is to take place later this year.
10. World Broadcasting Information
Monitoring proposes that the publication World
Broadcasting Information be renamed Summary of World Broadcasts - Media to make it an integral part of the SWB series.
14. Summary of World Broadcasting Index
The SWB Index will be brought into line with the above changes to take account of the internal reorganisation of the SWB parts and the introduction of new Part 5.
