I called on Chris Patten on my way through Hong Kong to Tokyo on business ten days ago. While I don't normally take a leading part in foreign affairs debates I have been to HK a number of times and in the course of conversation I offered a helpful voice in this House, should it be needed. He suggested I keep in touch with you for the purpose, and repeated this in a letter I received today.
I am sure Lynda will alert me as necessary, but if you would like to keep me generally up to date with background (without swamping me!) this will make it easier for me to keep the issues in focus. Please let me know if this would be helpful.
