5. Lord Howe also mentioned that he had at last received a letter from the President of the People's Institute of Foreign Affairs (PIFA) commenting on the report of his mission to China. He would send me a copy of the letter. In summary, the letter had stated that China did not appreciate the report, which commented on internal affairs of China. Lord Howe was however welcome to pay further visits to China: and a delegation from PIFA would come to Britain at an appropriate time.

6. Lord Howe said he had mentioned to the Chinese Ambassador that he would be visiting China in February and May in connection with his work for institutions in the City.
