1. The Minister has seen Mr Hum's minute of 16 March.

Subject to Sir Robin McLaren's views, the Minister is not disposed to recommend a call by Ms Zhang on the Secretary of State (I believe the Private Office in any case rejected this option on an earlier occasion). Ms Zhang is already due to meet the Secretaries of State for the Environment and Employment, as well as Mr Goodlad. Her programme therefore veers near overkill for a middle-ranking official (who, as Mr Hum points out, is unlikely to have much influence in Hong Kong matters).
3. The Minister is thinking in terms of offering a drink, rather than a meal, to Ms Zhang and her party. pencilled in for 1630 on Tuesday 23 March.

The Minister meets the latter on Adley for "a private talk". an almost daily basis in the House of Commons as it is, and sees little point in fixing up a call by Mr Adley on him.
