(In reply to a question whether HK Government officials' comments on the Han Dongfang case will affect the talks.) We hope the talks would be held in accordance with the agreed principles in a healthy manner. We hope we could move closer to the top of the hill.
The HK Government's deliberate exaggeration of the Han Dongfang case during the Sino- British talks on the 1994/95 electoral arrangements will only add to the distrust between Britain and China. This is something that the majority of HK people would not like to see.
It is irrational for the British side to link the Han Dongfang case to HK people's freedom of movement after 1997. For the talks to achieve results, the British side must come to its senses and show its sincerity.
