How Rood,
Legco Question from MY I MEGreggor
We have received a Legco question from Jimmy McGregor, please sec attached. The CS will have to answer this question (which is an oral one) on 3 November. Our office has been asked to prepare a draft reply by the end of this week for CS's consideration.
As far as we are aware, this is the first time the subject of "Comfort Women" in Hong Kong has come up in Legco (although previously LegCo members asked questions about Japanese military currency). In our urgent initial checks today we cannot find any information to provide specific answers to questions (a) and (b). We do not know, for example, whether any investigation was carried out or representation made to the Japanese Government on this issue. It also seems we have no record of any specific case. Unless we can find more specific information within the next two days or that you are able to provide more information on this, we can only give very general answers to the first two questions.
