Your Telno 1482: Ministerial interviews with the Hong Kong press
1. You suggest in para 2 of TUR that Mr Goodlad might talk to C.K.Ma and Herman Hui of the Oriental Daily around the end of the month or the first week of October. At Mike Hanson's suggestion, we are already setting up an interview for the Ming Pao with the Secretary of State in New York at about the same time. Since Mr Goodlad will be out of London until the afternoon of 29 September, any meeting with the Oriental Daily would either fall very close to the Secretary of State's bilateral with Qian or in the critical period between that meeting and the Governor's speech to Legco. We wonder whether it might not be better to wait until after the Governor's speech. Will the two journalists still be in London then?

Another consideration that occurs to us is that the English Language press might feel a bit left out if they too were not given an interview in this period. If we do get bids, it would probably be better to store them up for the period around the end of the political talks, when we will want to cover the waterfront with interviews.
