Dear Dr Roads,
Thank you for taking time to brief us on 17 December.
I must say I was impressed with the technology you presented. As we indicated, however, we are firmly locked into our own programme to computerize the department which includes provisions for our news and reference libraries. As regards the film archive, you are of course aware that the transfer of film to video is already underway as a separate project funded by the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club.
We have looked again at the possible requirements for our photo library, but I am afraid have come to the conclusion that the system you envisage, though desirable, is rather too sophisticated for our simple operational requirements, apart from the costs involved in procuring the necessary equipment.
