BBC World Service's continuing programme of investment to improve audibility around the world.
If asked:
Primary purpose is to improve quality of service to the
Sub-continent.

Station could also be used for transmissions to Eastern

Present Lease and Licence for the Hong Kong relay station are in force until June 1997.
If pressed:
The Long-term future of the Hong Kong relay station is one of the issues which we will be discussing with the Chinese authorities in due course.
