Dear Sir David,

I am writing to you at the suggestion of Brenda and David Reid, in connection with a major television drama serial I am currently developing for the BBC about Hong Kong. The serial centres on the hand o internationally. We are obviously concerned to research the project in considerable detail, and to present a responsible and informed account of the process leading up to a political event of this magnitude.

The writer of the project, Leigh Jackson, is going to Hong Kong on a research trip shortly, and we would be enormously grateful if you could spare some time to talk to him. Clearly your insight into British policy concerning Hong Kong, and your own impressions of the place, would be immensely valuable to us.

If you are unable to spare the time for a meeting, it would be very useful if you could help us with an introduction to someone in the Foreign Office in Hong Kong, whom Leigh Jackson could meet when he is there in the first two weeks of September.

In any event, any help you could give us would be invaluable. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Dassie Sharon
