But
we say, do we not, that whereas you are getting a lot of stick at the moment for going back on what has been agreed by the Chinese, we actually say that the Chinese have ignored their 1984 promise not to interfere in the administration of Hong Kong before 1997, we would say they are tending to do that?
MR PATTEN:
We would say that they have promised to cooperate, not to obstruct, and I would like to see some more cooperation and I think people in Hong Kong would because that is the best way of securing Hong Kong's livelihood and prosperity.
INTERVIEWER:
What will be the date, do you think, that work will actually start on the new airport?
MR PATTEN:
Oh it is starting, it is going on on about 5 of the 10 big
projects.
The question is whether we can finish it in time, I
would like us to finish it in time.
