DOORSTEP LONDON 19 JANUARY 1993
QUESTION:
Does that mean that you rejected the CRC's proposal that Mr Patten
or EXCO actually make the amendments before submitting the
proposal to LEGCO?
FOREIGN SECRETARY:
No, the Prime Minister said that we entirely accepted that it was
desirable to talk these things through with China, we had always
been willing to do so, and he said that we believed, without being
specific about tactics, that a way for that could be found.
QUESTION:
Do you mean that the tactics will be left to Mr Patten?
FOREIGN SECRETARY:
Tactics will be worked out between the Governor and the Prime
Minister and myself.
QUESTION:
And are you expecting another meeting in March?
FOREIGN SECRETARY:
It was agreed last year, as you know, by the two Prime Ministers
that the Foreign Ministers should meet to discuss Hong Kong every
six months. I met Mr Qian Qichen in New York last September so we
might meet again in March, it is a possibility. I think each of
us are waiting a bit yet before making any preparations in order
