our recent telephone correspondence concerning scholarships for Hong Kong.
2. You will be aware that I represented the FCO at last weeks Scholarship Board meeting. I was successful in retaining two scholarships as suggested by you and BTC.
3. The question of shared cost of airfares was not raised at the meeting as
with I had earlier raised the issue informally officials from the DTI, who fund up to 50% of the scheme. I am told that there is flexibility within the scheme and that the DTI would consider any proposals to enhance the scheme such as assistance in the cost of airfares. There is of course a danger that we could set a president for other countries, therefore, before taking this further you should ensure that Hong Kong speak with Stuart Pyle from DTI/PEP3d.
