BRITISH TRADE COMM

P.03

The Concept......

The centre is proposed as a joint venture between two organisations with charitable status: the British Council and the Chiang Industrial Charity Foundation Ltd.

It will be run on a full cost recovery basis with the core programmes of IGDS and IMDS provided under contract by Hong Kong Polytechnic and the University of Warwick.

A policy board will direct the activities of the centre; the British Council has been asked to take on the administration of the centre, on a full cost recovery basis.

Progress to date......

The Hong Kong Government Planning Department is confident that it will be able to offer a suitable site.

The Chiang Foundation has indicated its willingness to secure the HK$50 million estimated capital cost of the training centre and residential block.

The University of Warwick and Hong Kong Polytechnic are keen to expand their already successful and over- subscribed programmes through the new centre.

The Chiang Foundation is eager to provide residential and training facilities for increasing numbers of trainees from both industry and government in the PRC.
