FCOSAS: PROPSED ALLOCATION OF FUNDS FOR 1993/94

In your minute of 30 December, you asked for views on the proposed allocation of Funds for 1993/94. As far as Hong Kong's FCOSAS allocation is concerned, we are fortunate that it has survived unchanged in cash terms. It certainly could have been worse and, providing the final PES outcome is as CRD predict, I have no suggestions for any changes.

But I see that the table of Scholarship Allocation by Commands includes the £2.2m figure for "Fee Support" - our contribution to the scholarship scheme which we fund jointly with the Hong Kong Government. Although this has no direct relevance to CRD's FCOSAS execise, I thought you would wish to be aware that Hong Kong have recently told us that they are considering a proposal to phase out the Joint Funding Scheme by 1997. We are liaising with CRD on this and will be submitting shortly.
