Many thanks for your letter of 3 August to Tony Harris (who is on leave at present) and also for reporting in a way intended to avoid the immediate triggering of alarm bells everywhere.

As you requested I have passed on your letter and enclosure to interested AUSS and Departments. I enclose for your information a copy of my own covering minute which notes the concern of the WSTV and wider BBC management here over the implications of the Murdoch takeover. We shall keep you up to date with developments and with WSTV thinking at this end, and we should of course be grateful if you would continue to keep a close eye in Hong Kong on the progress and problems of WSTV's relations with Hutchvision and Star under the new management. WSTV say that it would be immensely helpful to have from you new information with a bearing on this issue, especially where they would be unlikely to hear of it from their own sources.
