CUSTOMS ARRANGEMENTS WITH HONG KONG

1. You may recall that earlier this year you commented on two draft Customs Arrangements prepared by HM Customs and Excise (HMCE) and the Hong Kong Customs. Of the two you much preferred the Hong Kong model. Hong Kong have now produced a second draft (copy attached). HMCE have deleted

paragraph 14 (1) (a), but are otherwise content.

2.

HMCE have now asked us to confirm that there is nothing objectionable in the revised draft by the end of the week. would be very grateful if you could confirm that you have no difficulties with the draft in time for me to meet HMCE's deadline. I am sorry for this rather tight deadline. HMCE have explained that it is necessary because the official signing of the Arrangement is tied to a visit.
