Mr Yaxley, the Hong Kong Government's Commissioner to Arışıq.
London, has invited the Secretary of State to attend the lunch
at the "Hong Kong Works" business conference on 10 November 1993. This conference is being organised by the Hong Kong
Government in association with the Institute of Directors.
The Prime Minister will give the keynote address in the
morning (other speakers are Sir William Purves, Baroness Dunn,
Peter Woo and Victor Fung) and the Governor will be the
lunchtime speaker. I understand that Mr Yaxley has also
written to the Minister inviting him to the lunch and to any
of the other sessions he may be able to attend.
2.
Private Office have advised that the Secretary of State
has a previous lunch engagement on that day and have asked
whether Mr Goodlad will attend the conference. I recommend
that if Mr Goodlad is available he should attend the morning
session and also the lunch. If Mr Goodlad agrees, we will
recommend that the Secretary of State need not attend the
lunch.
