COMPETITIVENESS WHEN PURSUING BUSINESS IN CHINA/HONG KONG/TAIWAN?
ECGD is open for cover on China/Hong Kong/Taiwan but, like other financial institutions, it works within prudent controls on its portfolio and sets premium rates to reflect the risks inherent in individual transactions. Although premium rates may sometimes be higher than those charged by other countries' Credit Agencies, this is only one of many factors which bear on UK competitiveness.

DOES HMG SUPPORT TAIWAN'S GATT ACCESSION?
HMG welcomes prospect of China's reaccession to GATT. Given the growing importance of the Chinese economy essential for China to participate fully in the inter- national trading system.
Taiwan has applied to join GATT as a customs territory with an independent trade policy. We welcome this
application [too] given Taiwan's importance as a trading economy.
