In the first ten months of 1992, total trade with China amounted to HK$511.1 billion, up 26.9% over the same period in 1991. Domestic exports to China amounted to HK$50.6 billion, up 14.8% over 1991 and re-export to China amounted to HK$169.0 billion, up 38.1% over 1991 during the same period.

Investment

Foreign investments in manufacturing industries include Hong Kong Petrochemical Co. Ltd. and Sonopress Pan Asia Ltd. from Europe and Unicon Industrial Ltd. from Japan. Expanded investments included Kyowa Industrial Co. Ltd., Daido Concrete Ltd. (HK) and Ushio HK Ltd. from Japan.

In the first ten months of 1992, a total of four new foreign investments and nine expanded investments in manfuacturing industry were undertaken with Industry Department assistance.

10. Regional Headquarters

In the whole of 1990 and the first five months of 1991, a total of 58 and 26 new regional headquarters were set up respectively, including 33 were from USA, 11 from UK, and 6 from Japan.

Additions since 1990 include Bank of America, British Airways, Colgate-Palmolive, Dunn and Bradstreet, Financial Times, General Motors, Gestetner, Japan Airlines, Morgan Stanley, Pepsico, Philips Electronics, R.J. Reynolds Nabisco, Sears, Taxas Instruments, Totool and Van Ommeren Ceteco.

Motorola top US electronics company, moved their regional HQ and development centre to HK at over half a billion (US$0.064 billion) dollars.
