The Hon. Andrew WONG Wang-fat, OBE, JP
Born in China in 1943, resident in Hong Kong
since 1949. Educated at the University of Hong Kong and at
Syracuse University (USA). A lecturer in the Department of
Government and Public Administration at the Chinese
University of Hong Kong. Married (Rita) with three
children.
Speaks Cantonese, English, Putonghua and
Shanghainese.
Roman Catholic.

Mr. Wong was appointed to the Executive Council
in 1991 and has been an elected member of the. Legislative
Council since 1985. He currently represents the New
Territories East Constituency and is the only directly
elected member of the Legislative Council on the Executive
Council. He is also an appointed member of the Shatin
District Board and a Council member on the Heung Yee Kuk
(a statutory advisory body on New Territories affairs).

Academic who takes a close interest in political
systems. Not a very impressive performer. Talks freely to
the media but, almost alone among dual ExCo/LegCo members, adheres punctiliously to concept of collective
responsibility.
• He left FRlo, along with other Leglo colleagues, last year when the Governor decided & separate the membership of the two councils.
