Government officials participated in the 2nd to 5th Conference of Commonwealth Arts Administrators held in 1981, 1983, 1988 and 1990 but declined the invitation to attend the 6th conference scheduled to be held in October 1992 (now deferred). The Conference was retitled as "Commonwealth Conferences on Arts and Cultural Policy" in 1990.

The Conferences were of little benefit to Hong Kong. It has become more "governmental" after the retitling in 1999. Hong Kong should phase out further participation by non-attendance and the link will automatically cease on 1 July 1997.

participates in the Commonwealth Law Conference (CLC) held every three years. Participation may also be on an individual and
personal basis.
