The spokesman drew attention to the statement made by the
Governor of Hong Kong in the Legislative Council on 11 March
announcing his intention to publish draft legislation on
electoral issues on 12 March.

- The spokesman said that we fully supported the Governor's
decision, taken with the advice of his Executive Council.
Introduction of the draft legislation into the Legislative Council would be a separate step. No decision had yet been
taken on the timing of that.
The spokesman added that we remained ready for talks with the
Chinese side on electoral arrangements in Hong Kong at any time
without preconditions.
