Seven strong points of our Association's democratic and equitable constitutional proposals

Our Association believes that a political system, one that is equitable and open

open and leading to general election, not only can straddle 1997 but also can fully attain the ideal of "Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong with a high degree of autonomy" if it is to develop in the direction laid down by the three constitutional documents mentions above. The seven strong points of the constitutional proposals put forth by our Association are briefly summed up as follows:

a.

b.

C.

d.

e.

f.

9,

our proposals have more democratic hues;

they are more in keeping with the equitable principles enshrined in the Bill of Rights;

the abolition by stages of the functional constituency elections which creates social polarization and inequalities;

the stipulation of the Election Committee that its members and the first Chief Executive should be chosen by democratic procedures;

straddling 1997 yet in conformation with the provisions of the Basic Law;

a clear and concrete development of democratic political system will gain the acceptance of the Hong Kong people;

to implement the pledge of showing respect to the views of the Hong Kong people.
