SECRETARY OF STATE'S
MEETING WITH ALL-PARTY GROUP OF
MPS, 27 JULY AT 1000
-
Continue full support for Co-Chairmen.
Important all parties negotiate seriously. Maintaining pressure on Serbs and Croats. No question of forcing Muslims to accept partition.
Situation on ground adds urgency to search for settlement.
Sarajevo particularly at risk. In close touch with allies to consider appropriate response to attacks on UN in breach of latest ceasefire.
Air power would mark significant change in international approach. Recognise may become necessary. Important right balance is struck between risk to UNPROFOR and aid effort, and ensuring safety of troops and continuation of aid effort/safe areas. UK has deployed 12 Jaguars, 6 Sea Harriers and 42 ground personnel for air support.

Over 2M people dependent on relief: vital that aid continues to flow. UK troops have escorted 1,022 convoys with 48,994 tonnes of aid. 634 RAF flights to Sarajevo, with 8,664 tonnes. 425 ODA convoys have transported 35,329 tonnes.
